I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend and stayed dry! We had such an amazing day on Friday, it was great to see the students working together and enjoying a day of learning outside the classroom walls. Homecoming Spirit Day and Pep Rally:
This Friday we will be celebrating our Elk Rapids Homecoming with an Orange and Black Spirit Day. Please show your ER Pride by wearing as much orange and black as possible. ERHS has also welcomed us to an all-district pep rally at Glowicki Field on Friday from 1:30-2:30. We will share additional information on community and parent attendance at the event when we learn more.
Positivity Project Update:
This week during P2 our students and staff will be exploring the character strength of “teamwork” which is perfect timing for us to celebrate in conjunction with our homecoming. Please see the attached PDF for a quick overview.
NWEA Testing:
We are scheduled to start our NWEA math testing tomorrow. It is a good time to remind students to get good rest, charge their Chromebooks overnight, and eat a healthy breakfast.

CMS Fall Field Trips:
A big shout out to Mrs. DeVogel, CMS Staff, and the many parents and community volunteers who helped to make our fall trips another successful experience. It is great to see our students learning beyond the classroom walls.
School Picture Order Forms:
School picture order forms are coming home with students Tuesday 9/27/22. If your super responsible middle school student does not bring home a copy you can order school pictures online at timeless-image.com our school code is 4222.
Backpack Food Program:
Food 4 Kids by Manna Food Project is a program to help assist hungry children by providing a bag of food on Fridays to have over the weekend when school is not in session. If your student would like to be a part of this program please click on the link below and fill out the form. If you have more than one student here at CMS, please fill out the form for each student.

Immunizations Reminder 7th Grade Families:
Families of students in 7th grade with incomplete immunization records have received a notification via the mail. These immunizations or a waiver from the health department are required by 10/1/2022. Please make an appointment with your physician or contact the health department for a waiver. Health Department of NW Michigan Phone Number: (800) 432-4121
CMS Construction Update 9/26/2022:
The asbestos abatement process is preceding without issue or delay and is scheduled to be completed this week. The next step will be to physically demolish the oldest sections of CMS. This demolition work is scheduled to begin the week of October 3rd.

There are no new updates on construction. All times and plans shared last week remain the same.

We are continuing to persevere through the challenges of construction. Despite losing classroom space, our playground, and parking we are finding ways to adapt and ensure students and safe, learning, and enjoying their days here at CMS!
As you have probably already learned from Mrs. Brown’s email update following the ER School Board meeting on September 1st there was a presentation to explain the legal requirements and steps the contractors would take to protect everyone during the asbestos abatement. The schedule for the abatement is on track to begin on Monday 9/19 and continue for about 2 weeks. Please refer to the attached document FAQ
