Dear Friends of the Elk Rapids Schools,
If you are looking for a school where “Excellence is a Tradition!” and where students, their families and staff come together to form an unbeatable school family, then you have found the school district you are looking for! The Elk Rapids Schools is known for educational excellence and award winning students, staff and programs. Yet, it is something else we are known for that I would like to comment on before you finalize your decision as to whether or not you commit to filling out the Open Enrollment Student Release Form to send your child(ren) to Elk Rapids.
We espouse the old time values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, integrity and hard work. We are not shy to let our students know we think they are the greatest and that we love each and every one of them. It is essential that our students know that we care deeply about them by the fact that we know them. We do not have all of the answers for all of our students—yet.
One answer we have implemented is the Elk Rapids Alternative High School (ERAHS). This exciting, innovative high school, which is located in the Village of Elk Rapids, is designed for students who need flexibility in their schedules and curriculum programming. It will lead to an Elk Rapids High School diploma, just like the students at our traditional high school receive. We have students who have great intelligence, but may have fallen through the cracks, simply because they needed a different path to travel to course completion and graduation. ERAHS will be there for those students who would like more flexibility in their learning.
Another answer is our approach to Gifted and Talented programming. We believe all students are gifted and talented. We are implementing a differentiated curriculum and methodology that will allow all students to achieve more fully their potential, not just a select few.
That’s it. That is what we are known for: Excellence, Innovation, Caring, and Old Fashioned Values that ennoble the mind and develop character. That is what makes Elk Rapids such a special place to educate and raise a child.
