DECORATION CONTEST FOR HOMES AND BUSINESSES ANNOUNCED

 Are you ready to show your Holiday Spirit?   Mark your calendar and get your seasonal decorations out for the Annual “Window Night Award,” and “Home Decoration Award” sponsored by Elk Rapids Business & Professional Women’s Club.                 

Again this year we will have a “HOME AWARD” using the same criteria for judging, and a Traveling Award specifically for Home decorations.  The traveling plaque will contain the name and date of each annual winner. The winner displays the plaque throughout the year, and it is the passed on to the following year’s winner.

Judging will be “after dark” on Friday, December 4, 2009, so remember to spotlight your decorations and keep the lights on.  The committee will announce the winner on Monday December 7, 2009.  Winners will be notified that weekend, and names will be posted at the Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.  Our judges always remain anonymous.

If you have not heard about our annual traveling “Window Night” award, this tradition was started back in the 1950’s by the local women of BPW in the hopes that the community would be properly decorated for the arrival of “Santa.”  The traveling Window Night Award plaque contains the name and date of each annual winner. The winner displays the plaque throughout the year, and it is the passed on to the following year’s winner.   Judging is based on Christmas Appeal 30%, Originality 25%, Work and Effort, 15%, Eye Appeal 15%, and Neatness 15%.

All decorated business windows/displays, and homes in the Elk Rapids area will be judged.
